Chat Aloo Masala (Chat Potato Masala)



Ingredients:

  • 6 medium size potatoes (cut into cubes)
  • 4 medium size onion (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp. grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp. grated garlic
  • 2 green chilies (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp. mint leaves (chopped)
  • 50 gm yogurt
  • 1 tbsp. coriander and mint paste
  • 1/4 tbsp. cumin seed (whole)
  • 1/4 tbsp. turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tbsp. cumin powder
  • 1/4 tbsp. coriander powder
  • 1/4 tbsp. chat masala
  • 1/4 tbsp. kashmiri red chili powder
  • 6-7 tbsp. oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • Salt as needed

Making Procedure:


Peel the potatoes, cut into cubes and boil them. Pour the potatoes into a colander.

Heat the oil till it begins to smoke and add cumin seed, when it starts to crackle add the chopped onion. Fry it for about 2 minutes on medium heat.

Add ginger & garlic (grated before), cumin powder, coriander powder, chat masala, kashmiri red chili powder and fry for a minute.

Now add yogurt and stir it for a minute, then add the potatoes, coriander & mint paste-mix it well until the masala makes a coat over the potatoes.

Add 1/2 cup of water and cook it till the potatoes are semi-dry.

Garnish with butter and chopped mint leaves. 
Serve hot with roti or paratha.
