Prawn Malaikari/Chingri Malaikari

Ingredients:

  • 200 grams prawn (10 pieces)
  • 1 large onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 tsp. ginger paste
  • 1 ½ tsp. cashew nut paste 
  • 1 tsp. raisins paste 
  • ½ cup grated coconut (make a paste)
  • ¼ tsp. turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp. Kashmiri red chili powder
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 3+2 tbsp. oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 200 ml water
  • A pinch of garam masala (optional)
  • 1 spoon ghee (optional)


*Make spice mix paste:
  • ½” cinnamon
  • 2 green cardamom
  • 2 cloves
  • ½ tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 leaf of mace 

Making Procedure:


At first remove shell and devein the prawns and then wash well. Marinate with a little salt & turmeric powder and keep aside for 5 minutes.

Heat 3 tbsp. oil in a kadai. Add the marinated prawn into it and fry them for 3-4 minutes on medium heat. Then remove from oil and keep aside.

Now add 2 tbsp. oil into the same kadai. When the oil starts to smoke reduce the heat and add chopped onion. Fry it till they become transparent.

Then add ginger paste and fry it for a minute. Add cashew- raisins paste, *spice mix paste, coconut paste, turmeric & red chili powder, 1 tbsp. water, salt & sugar and continue stirring for 2 minutes on low heat.


Add the fried prawns and mix well. Then add 200 ml water, stir well and cook it covered for 5 minutes on low heat.


Remove from heat, Then spread a spoon of ghee and sprinkle a pinch of garam masala over it.

Serve warm with plain rice.
