Simple Fish Curry

Ingredients:


  • 4 pieces rohu fish or any carp
  • 1 large and 1 small potato (cut into wedges)
  • 1 large onion (chopped)
  • 1 ripe tomato (sliced)
  • 2 green chilies (broken)
  • A few coriander leaves (chopped)
  • 1 bay leaves
  • A pinch of cumin seeds
  • A pinch of Black Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1/4 tsp. cumin powder
  • 1/2 + 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp. red chili powder
  • A pinch of sugar
  • Salt
  • 5-6 tbsp. mustard oil
  • 400 ml water

Making Procedure:


Wash the fishes, marinate them with 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder, a little salt and keep aside for 5 minutes.

Heat oil in a kadai. When the oil begin to smoke, reduce heat  and  slowly add fish pieces. Fry them both sides until they turns golden brown. Then remove them from the oil and keep aside.

Now add bay leaves, cumin seeds and mustard seeds into the same oil. When the seeds splutter, add chopped onion, potato wadges and fry till the onion & potato edges are light brown.

Add tomato slices and fry it till the tomatoes are soften. Then add ginger paste, broken green chilies and fry it for 1 minute on low medium heat. Reduce the heat. Add turmeric powder, cumin powder, red chili powder and  fry for a minute. Then add 400 ml water, salt and a pinch of sugar, stir it and bring to boil.

When start boiling add the fish pieces. Cook it covered for 10-15 minutes on low medium heat or until the potatoes are done.

Remove from heat and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Serve hot with plain rice.
